Teaching Coding and Digital Skills in Primary School

How to Start Teaching Coding in Primary — simple steps & ready-to-use ideas
A practical, hands-on session for primary teachers who want to get coding started with confidence. We’ll move from unplugged activities to on-screen projects, with age-appropriate tool suggestions (e.g., ScratchJr for Infants/1st, Scratch from 2nd–6th, optional Bee-Bot/Micro:bit). Expect clear routines, sample lesson flows, and ideas that work in real classrooms and mixed-ability groups.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Plan coding lessons
  • Run your first lesson (unplugged and on-screen)
  • Choose tools that fit your class, devices, and time
  • Differentiate with challenges/extensions and pair programming
  • Link coding to Maths, SPHE & Literacy and manage common pitfalls

Who should attend: Primary teachers (Infants–6th), no prior coding experience needed.
Format: Online webinar (60 minutes).
