Introduction to ASD on Tuesday 9th November:
This webinar explores diagnosis, issues in the world of ASD, theories, prevalence, associated conditions and evidence based teaching and learning interventions.
Introduction to Fundamental Movement Skills and Sensory Integration on Tuesday 16th November:
This webinar explores what fundamental movement skills and sensory integration are, why they are important, how they are developed, programme planning and delivery, and the use of demonstration and feedback in the world of FMS.
Promoting and Maintaining participation in FMS programmes for students with ASD on Tuesday 23rd November:
This webinar explores how to maximise participation in FMS for students with ASD.
Exploring The GetAutismActive programme on Tuesday 30th November:
This webinar brings it all together in The GetAutismActive Online Resource Kit. This is a teaching and learning tool which I have developed and refined over years of research and innovation. It includes the 19 skills of movement i.e. running, jumping, kicking, dodging etc. It is designed using an “eclectic” approach and has taken best practice from each of a number of teaching and learning methodologies. Hence each skill comes with a video demonstration, a checklist of how the skill is broken down into steps, a voice over prompt with key cues, an incidental teaching and learning guide and a guide to evaluate each session. Proprioceptive stretches are included to use before and after each
In addition, a practical session will be available to put into action the topics and learnings from the course.
Who should complete the online training?
Teachers, SNAs and Coaches who wish to develop and up skill on knowledge and practice in relation to ASD with specific emphasis on movement as a strategy to promote regulation, reduce anxiety and increase engagement in classroom and incidental teaching and learning. This is a timely opportunity to address supporting our children, young people or adults with autism returning to school environments/care settings while also promoting their holistic health, learning and well-being in the process. Equally it provides our teachers, SNAs and Coaches with the knowledge, skills and resources to engage meaningfully and without stress with their students/service users especially in this Covid 19 era.
Facilitator:
Dr Susan Crawford PhD, Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant, Fulbright Scholar, Masters in Teaching & Learning, BScSport & Exercise Science, Registered Midwife and Registered General Nurse.
